Y&R Recaps Week of October 30, 2006

Michael conferred with D.A. Will and confirmed that he had given Carmen the envelope with information about her fling with her past employer. Michael then headed to the Winters household and spoke to Devon about the envelope. Devon explained Carmen dropped it while in the elevator with him. Michael told the anxious family that he asked Paul to do a background check on Carmen and that's how the information in the envelope turned up. When Michael continued to question Devon about his last encounter with Carmen, he said he went to her apartment in an attempt to return the envelope. When she didn't answer the door, he went to the park. Unfortunately, no one saw him, thus, he has no alibi. Drucilla tried to get Michael to stop badgering her son but Michael explained that Devon withheld evidence from the police. She then flipped out when he said the police think she made plans to meet with Carmen the night of Ms. Mesta's murder. Michael became even more nervous when Lily and Daniel explained also had no alibi the night of the murder. Neil and Dru then told Michael they wondered why the police had taken duct tape and trash bags while searching the apartments. When alone, Dru suggested to Neil they fix things for Devon, "tweak out alibis."

The kids retreated to Crimson Lights and Devon regretted not turning the envelope in to the police. Lily decided she would give Devon an alibi. She would say she saw him at the park. Devon and Daniel looked surprised at her pronouncement. Daniel tried to talk her out of it. "Lying is only going to mess it up more," Daniel said. Devon agreed. Trying to end the boy's skepticism, Lily claimed to really be at the park. "I saw you," she stated.

Lauren was exhausted but managed to convince Gloria it was okay for her to return to work. Gloria charged into Jill's office and heard that Mr. Kim put a halt on her perfume line. When Gloria argued that John had approved the line Jill had to remind her that Jabot is longer a family company. After Jill made dinner plans with the very-in-demand Mr. William Bardwell, Gloria called up the D.A. to talk about her bad day. "Why did John have to die?" She cried. Will showed up and Gloria wept to Will about her situation and expressed anger over John's death. Will comforted Gloria, remembering a time he had been angry when his wife died also. "Death always seems unfair," he added. Gloria and Will hugged at the very moment that Jill walked in.

Lauren finally got Fenn to sleep, but he woke up again. Fortunately, Michael came home just in time to give his wife the big hug she so desperately needed. Feeling stressed and emotional she sobbed about Carmen's recent murder. "She was somebody's baby once too." Kevin came over and played with Fenn while Lauren took a much needed nap and Michael went back to work.

Kevin and Jana agreed to live together and began their search for the perfect apartment. Gloria was none too pleased to hear of her son's new living arrangement. Meanwhile, Adrian found Colleen at Crimson Lights and joked about the class she had missed. She told him she decided to drop his class because of the kiss the two shared just days earlier. Adrian tried to convince her to change her mind but she insisted her mind was made up. Later, Colleen was very surprised to find Adrian in Brad and Victoria's office researching the Newman art collection. Brad worried Adrian had a different agenda. Adrian again tried to convince Colleen dropping his class would be a mistake and would leave him in a bind without an assistant. They joked and Colleen seemed to be softening up. She later called the professor with good news. "I'll see you in class," she said with a smile.

Will and Det. Sullivan came to question Brad. They told him about the security tape, and asked why he was lurking outside Carmen's suite the night of her murder. Brad explained that he had to discuss a project with her. Will was certain Brad was hiding something. Then it was Victoria's turn on the hot seat. Victoria assured the two that Brad's visit to Carmen's suite was for a business matter. Victoria explained her decision to put Dru on a leave of absence instead of firing her. She personally didn't think Carmen was in any danger from Dru, but Carmen obviously thought otherwise. When alone, Brad and Victoria worried that some of Brad's past (the two murders, specifically) might come out. Victoria asked her husband what he thought about ending Dru's leave of absence. He was all for it. Victoria then promised Brad that she'd never tell anyone about his past. "We're in this together," she assured him.

The episode ended with Brad, Victoria, Devon, Daniel, Lily, Dru and Neil all opening their subpoenas to appear before the grand jury.

Kay told Jill she got a call from her accountant, reporting that Billy was charging up a storm on his account at the GCAC and giving his "emergency" credit card a workout, too. Jill offered to cover the bill, but Kay said that wasn't the point. Billy needed to learn "fiscal responsibility." Jill said she'd handle the matter. Kay asked Esther if she'd noticed anything odd when doing Billy's laundry or cleaning his room and told her to keep her eyes open.

Billy told Jack that he wanted to talk to him about their father's will. Since Jack was the executor, perhaps he could give his little brother some cash? Billy complained about living at the Chancellor house and mentioned a condo he'd found on the waterfront, noting that it would be a good investment. Jack told Billy that he needed to learn to live on the salary he earned. Billy got a call from Jill, who asked him to come home, NOW. When he arrived, Jill explained about the accountant's call, and how she knew Billy had been using the emergency credit Kay extended him for Internet gambling. Billy pooh-poohed the matter and promised to pay Kay back with his next paycheck. Jill left, satisfied. Kay wasn't. She talked to Billy about his Internet gambling, but he insisted that it was just entertainment. He'd learn how to budget his money better.

Jill arrived at the office and learned that Billy had invited Jack to breakfast. "He asked you for money, didn't he?" said Jill, who summoned Billy and told him she knew what he tried to pull on Jack. Since Billy owed money to the athletic club and was wasting bucks on Internet gambling, Jill said he wasn't responsible enough to handle his inheritance. Billy admitted he'd "screwed up" and apologized. Jill, in turn, agreed to pay off Billy's debts, if he never did it again. (Riight.)

Lauren and Michael brought Fenn home and anticipated a peaceful day at home, alone. Too bad Gloria was there waiting for them. Soon, Kevin and Jana arrived, too. Michael got a call from Drucilla about the pending murder case, and Lauren gave him the go ahead to leave and attend to business. When Lauren went to put Fenn down, Kevin and Gloria discussed Michael and Lauren taking them in after the Abbotts tossed them out. Kevin thought it was time to move out. Gloria thought not: Michael and Lauren needed her help with the baby. Kev pointed out that Lauren and Michael never asked for Glo's help. Kevin and Jana left, and Kay arrived bearing a gift for Fenn. After Kay left, Gloria volunteered to tend to the crying baby, but Lauren insisted she'd do it. Alone, Gloria talked to a photo of her and John. She told her former husband how much she wished he was there to see their grandson.

Will and Det. Sullivan went over Carmen's murder case. Sullivan said forensics was checking the clothing they'd collected from the Winters' home to see if Carmen's DNA was on it. Meanwhile, at home, Dru expressed her furor to Devon, Lily, Daniel and Neil about the DA searching their homes. Devon thought it had something to do with an envelope he had containing a report about Carmen. It noted that Carmen had an affair with a married man at her last job and threatened a sexual harassment lawsuit. At the DA's office, Will and Det. Sullivan discussed that report and wondered how Devon ended up with it. Michael arrived and said he filed a motion to have the warrant quashed and the evidence suppressed. Will noted that he could get probable cause and showed Michael the videotape of Devon getting on the elevator with Carmen at Newman Enterprises, and the snippet of Devon showing up at Carmen's door with the envelope in his hand. Then, Will told Michael about a note found on Carmen’s body that read, "Come around 5:30. Important." Scribbled on the other side, "No way in hell." Will said that Dru's fingerprints were on it. He believed Dru lured Carmen somewhere to kill her. Upon losing his motion, Michael phoned Neil with the bad news. Neil, in turn, made a call instructing someone to "get the jet ready to go at a moment's notice." Dru cried, realizing Neil thought she was guilty.

After Michael left, Det. Sullivan returned to Will's office. She'd seen something funny on the video and blew it up for a better look. Will looked at a picture that showed Devon knocking on Carmen's door with the envelope in hand. Hiding behind him was Brad Carlton.

Like most folks in town, Michael and Paul discussed Carmen's murder and whether the police would track down the envelope Michael gave her about her previous affair. Paul suggested their digging could have "reignited some old grudge." When they heard CSI had cleared the crime scene, Michael called Drucilla and Neil and asked them to meet him at Indigo. Dru and Neil had just confirmed for each other that neither of them killed Carmen. Dru was panicked about returning to the scene, but Neil got her to reconsider. Once there, Neil pointed out that neither of them had "a verifiable alibi." Dru corrected that they had each other. They met Michael inside, where they determined Carmen was probably killed somewhere else. Dru gave Paul a tour, leaving Michael to ask Neil for his alibi, which was that he was home alone with Dru. Then he asked Dru and she said the same. Michael was glad their stories matched, but worried a spouse was a weak alibi. When they left, Paul asked Michael where he was the night of the killing. He said he'd gone from work to the hospital with Lauren and Fen, but got annoyed and excused himself without answering when Paul asked what time he left work. When Dru and Neil got home, they acknowledged that their fictitious alibi meant that if Dru goes down, Neil would go down with her.

Victor and Nikki caught up while waiting for Miguel to finish dinner. Victor was writing a condolence letter to Carmen's family and talk soon turned to whether Dru was the killer. Nikki guessed no, but Victor maintained that, "people are inherently good, but given certain circumstances, they can snap." Brad agreed when he and Victoria arrived and when Nikki said she couldn't imagine Dru tracking Carmen down to do this, Victoria, who seemed very distracted, insisted she had "no doubt" she'd kill to protect herself or her family, "in a heartbeat." Brad was sure Dru was the number one suspect. Before dinner was served, Victoria noted Victor looked well and Nikki was absolutely glowing over the secret that they were teaming up against Jack. Victor interrupted, saying he was doing "much better than expected." When Brad and Victoria left, Victoria was upset about keeping secrets, but understood that hearing Brad went to see Carmen at her hotel would only lead to questions. Victor, meanwhile, reprimanded Nikki for almost slipping about his health to their daughter. "Just between us. Remember that."

Phyllis and Nick stopped by the hospital to drop off a gift for baby Finn, but Lauren stalled at letting Phyllis see her newborn son. "I know that Sheila's dead and I know you're not her. But every time I see you, it just — it freaks me out. I can't help it," Lauren apologized. Phyllis understood, let Lauren feel her baby kick. Then, as she filled Lauren in on their disastrous but ultimately successful wedding, Lauren lost focus, distracted by a Halloween mask. The idea of Sheila was clearly taking its toll on her, but she admitted she'd told Michael she was fine. Even talk of Carmen's death made her think of Sheila, so Phyllis said, "She was the psychopath of all time, but she was still flesh and blood and she is dead." Michael arrived with dinner and good news: the second test on Sheila's remains confirmed the body in Argentina was Sheila. After dinner, Michael went home, but wanted to stay. Luckily, the doc showed up and said they could all go home — including baby Finn.

Colleen was appalled and apologetic after kissing her professor and left as soon as JT called. JT wrote her tardiness off as Korbel overworking her again and when Colleen met up with him, Lily, Devon and Daniel, she shrugged off the topic of the successful fundraiser and her professor. She worried about her friends and all their connections to dead Carmen. Daniel tried to distract the group by getting a game started, but it didn't work. The guys ended up in the kitchen, where JT revealed that Carmen was dumped in the alley, but that he couldn't say how things would go for Dru. He turned his attention to Colleen, asking why she seemed off. Colleen got defensive when he said, "What, did something happen tonight with the professor?" She pushed his concern off by saying she was tired. He acted dejected, so after a flashback to the kiss, she told JT she loved him and they kissed. In the afterglow, JT noted there was something "different" about this lovemaking session. (Um, guilt, maybe!) Then he went to shower and Colleen called her prof to apologize again. Korbel immediately texted back that there was no need and Colleen joined her man in the shower. Devon, meanwhile, returned to his place with Daniel and Lily and announced he'd decided to share the letter with the cops, because JT said "the case could turn on the slightest bit of evidence." Daniel saw the logic, but Lily was worried. She suggested they share it with Dru and Neil and get their opinion. Shortly thereafter, cops showed up at their place and their parent's place with search warrants for the clothes they wore the last two nights — and the envelope!

Prof. Korbel stopped by Crimson Lights for a coffee and Jana chatted him up, telling him how much she loved art history. All he heard was that she knew Colleen and when he asked Kevin to "sum her up in one word," Kev went with the word "stubborn." After Korbel left, Kevin teased Jana, asking if she was flirting with the prof. Then she locked up and they literally ripped each other's clothes off. Kevin was all fired up over having sex at the coffee house and afterward, Jana was ready to go again. Then she noticed the security video camera! They got a kick out of watching their sex video and then Jana insisted he delete the file. They started joking about putting it up online and then Jana "double dared" him to upload it to his Web site. He did, then he (said he) erased it. "Once something's on the Internet, it's never private," she noted.

It was Carmen, Carmen, Carmen throughout the entire episode...Most Genoa City residents couldn't help but feel a tad relieved that Carmen was no longer a problem (albeit for vastly different reasons). "Even if you don't say it," Gi Min said to a slightly offended Jack, "you must be thinking it."

Michael popped in to check in on the Winters. Lily, Daniel and Devon sat quietly on the couch and watched Drucilla flip out. "Are they going to arrest me, or what?" she spat at Michael. Michael did his best to calm her down, and asked everyone to keep their mouths shut about the case. He reminded the kids that it was not — repeat not — time to play amateur detectives. Michael reprimanded Dru for talking to the detective at the club. Once he left, Will and Det. Sullivan dropped by. Uh-oh. Will commented that it was very convenient that his key witness was killed on the eve of Dru's trial. Yes, indeed. Dru and Neil asked them to leave. "We'll be in touch," Will assured them. Michael called Neil and asked to meet with him privately; he wanted to ask him about his relationship with Carmen. Neil made it clear that he'd never slept with Carmen. Michael wondered what Carmen's intentions were toward Neil. Will met up with Michael and assured him that he will not rest until "Carmen Mesta receives the justice she deserves." Dru assured Neil that she would do anything to protect him, clearly making the assumption that perhaps Neil knows more about the murder than he was saying. Neil thought that was odd, as he was about to ask her the same thing. Clearly, Dru and Neil think the other might be a murderer.

Over at Newman Enterprises, Noah showed off his costume as the adults — Jack, Sharon, Victoria, Brad, Victor and Nikki — talked about, guess what, Carmen. Victor thought it was sweet that Jack was being so nice to Noah. Nikki told Jack that she'd take over some of Carmen's duties for the time being. Jack wondered if Victor was bored at home. When Nikki left, Jack had that "I wonder what's up with Victor" look on his face.

Detective Sullivan and Will started asking Victoria and Brad some questions and moved on to Sharon. Victoria was worried after Brad lied to the police. Sharon thought Dru's feelings toward Carmen were quite justified because Carmen went after Neil. Will wondered if Sharon was sympathetic because she had just been dumped by her husband.

The post-Aaron Neville concert glow came to an abrupt halt when Neil, Drucilla, Daniel, Lily and Devon found Carmen's dead body in the alley in back of Indigo. After informing the cops Neil and Dru assured the kids they didn't need to be caught up in the mess. Dru insisted the kids go home and after some convincing they left. Neil quickly called Michael with the news that Carmen was dead. "Where are you?" The lawyer demanded. Michael told both of them to stay quiet and that he'd been there ASAP. The police arrived and a detective began questioning Dru and Neil. The officer made a snarky observation when she learned they had already "lawyered up" and called for counsel. Michael rushed in and shushed up a mouthy Dru. Will was suspicious that his key witness was found dead the day before she had to testify. "This alley has been officially declared a crime scene," he told the Winters before walking away. Dru began to shake with fear. Michael told the Winters that the police had already begun coming up with a list of suspects and motives. "I won't lie to you. This doesn't look good."

The kids arrived home to their new apartment and began to play mini-detectives. Devon remembered he still had an envelope with Carmen's name on it that she had dropped earlier that day when the two shared an elevator. The contents of the envelope told them that at Carmen's previous job she had an affair with a married executive and took a large chuck of cash to "disappear." As they read on, the teens realized it might be evidence that lead to Carmen's killer. Though Devon wanted to destroy the paperwork, Lily suggested they keep it — just in case — but tell no one.

Back at the Abbot home, Jack and Sharon had nothing but positive things to say about the Aaron Neville performance. Before long, however, their conversation turned to Carmen. Jack made several attempts at reaching Carmen's cell, to no avail. (Could that be perhaps because she was dead?) When the night turned romantic and Jack suggested they go upstairs, they were sadly interrupted by a phone call from Mr. Kim. He later showed up and apologized for ruining their evening. Sharon then left the two men to talk shop. Mr. Kim worried Sharon may have suspicions of their dealing but Jack assured him, "No. Not at all." Mr. Kim informed Jack that everything was running smoothly and that they even beat out Newman on a recent acquisition. Naturally Jack was thrilled and promised their partnership would be not only beneficial for Jabot but House of Kim as well. He just needed one favor: Send Gloria overseas! Mr. Kim suggested Pompeii. When the two businessmen ended their meeting, Sharon rejoined Jack and urged him to stop living vicariously through Mr. Kim's Jabot business dealings.

Victor and Nikki agreed to keep Victor's true state of mind a secret from Jack as a way to see what he's really up to. Victor apologized to Nikki for his actions over the last few months, including selling NVP to Jack. The couple wondered if Jack had been manipulating them and using Victor's illness for his own agenda. Nikki wanted to believe some of Jack's actions were sincere. Victor vowed to bring Jack down if he pretended to be something he wasn't.
