The 411

The middle of three sisters (one is seven years younger; the other is two years older), Ambyr Childers grew up playing sports ("We were never the ballet-type girls or the girls who would dress up with princess outfits; we were very athletic") and singing. But as a high-school student, she became interested in giving acting a go and much to her parents' surprise, she booked the very first job she went out for: a commercial for Saab.

She began to work steadily while still enrolled in high school, booking more commercials and some movies, most notably Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star. Not long before graduation, she drove to L.A. to audition for ALL MY CHILDREN Casting Director Judy Blye Wilson, who was searching for the perfect actress to embody Colby, the spunky, spoiled daughter of Adam and Liza. After impressing Wilson, she was flown to New York to test opposite David Canary (Adam/Stuart) and when she got the part, she had to take her final exams early and move to the big city by herself within a matter of weeks.

Although fans were slow to warm to her initially shrill character ("People would come up to me and say, 'Colby is such a brat.'") Childers quickly developed tight bonds on set with Brent Weber (Sean), Alexa Havins (ex-Babe) and Bobbie Eakes (Krystal). "Me, Bobbie and Alexa have always been really close — we were the three blondes!" she sighs. "Taping my last scenes with Alexa, I was so emotional. Thorsten [Kaye, Zach] came up to me and he was like, 'Dude, what's your problem?' I was like, 'Alexa's going [sobbing]!' It was hard."

In her free time, Childers enjoys hanging out with boyfriend Sean, taking acting classes, watching movies, "and doing research on the Internet. Every time I sit down at my computer, I end up doing research for, like, five hours. But I like it better when I don't have a lot of free time. I don't struggle with working; I struggle with not working!"

Five Random Facts

— Childers entered the world of professional acting after winning a bet with her father: "If I made all-star for softball, he promised he'd take me to get headshots."
— Before AMC calling, Childers was slated to go to college on a golf scholarship.
&mdash Is a huge country music fan who grew up idolizing Shania Twain.
— On AMC, she considers her biggest challenge is acting like she doesn't like Leven Rambin's Ava. "Leven's so funny, it's so hard for me to pretend to be mad at her!"
— Is borderline-obsessed with the ABC drama LOST

Peer Review

David Canary (Adam/Stuart): "Every day is a David Canary story! He gets so into his character and it's so much fun to play with someone who is so into what they do. He's so cute. Every day that I work with him, he goes, 'You got prettier overnight. What did you do?' I'm like, 'David, stop!' He's so sweet. He says, 'I don't know why I get to work with the prettiest girl on the show.' He's so sweet and he comes from such a nice family. He always talks to me about his kids and his wife and their vacations. And I really love him as Stuart. It's so cute to see David become Stuart."

Bobbie Eakes (Krystal): "Bobbie's very down-to-earth. She's a Southern girl and I love that because I come from a very Western family. We're always like, 'Don't you wish you could have a nice, Southern meal tonight?' 'Don't you wish you could ride a horse right now?'"

Michael E. Knight (Tad): "Michael's like my uncle. He's just such a great actor and he's funny and so talented. What I like about Michael is that he's been doing this for so long, it's almost not like a job. I mean, it probably is a job for him, but it seems almost like the pleasure that a hobby would give you. He enjoys it so much and he's so good at it, and he makes every scene a comfortable environment for everyone. Everyone loves Michael."

Leven Rambin (Lily/Ava): "When Leven and I work together, we cannot stop laughing and I think it makes them mad. Leven's personality is awesome because she's just so out there and funny. She's so young, but so old at the same time."

Brent Weber (Sean): "We have a lot of fun together; we just act like two big kids. I am a kid; he's not, but he looks young [laughs]! We always sneak around the set looking for stuff to eat."

Jacob Young (JR): "What is there not to like about Jacob? He's seriously like my brother. I talk to him all the time about stuff. He's a pain in the ass sometimes, just like a brother, but he's so sweet."
