THE 411
Though the daughter of doctors (one of physics, the other of mathematics), Christina Chambers always knew she would be an actress. She grew up in Alexandria with her parents and three siblings. In high school, aside from acting in school musicals and plays, she was on the track team, and played softball and field hockey.
Chambers attended college at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she studied Shakespeare, falling in love with his works. While spending a semester at Stratford-upon-Avon studying with the Royal Shakespeare Company, she played the role of Goneril in King Lear. She then toured with the Shenandoah Shakespeare Express, playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.
After the tour, she met her agent Peter, and her acting career began to pick up. She landed the role of Maria on Aaron Spelling's SUNSET BEACH, and stayed with the soap until it ended. She played several other roles before taking on the role of Marty Saybrooke on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. In preparing for the role, she made a conscious decision not to watch any of Susan Haskell's (ex-Marty) tapes. "She's a fabulous person to follow," Chambers says about her Emmy-winning predecessor, adding that "there's just no way I could compare at all with Susan."
