THE 411

Ian Buchanan, a native of Hamilton, Scotland, was born the second eldest of six children (he has two sisters and three brothers). He left school at 14 and worked as a hotel bellhop and before long was living the jet-set life, working internationally as a top model for the prestigious Ford agency. When he relocated to the U.S., he quickly rose to fame as Duke on GENERAL HOSPITAL. He remains close friends with his GH leading lady, Finola Hughes (ex-Anna). After a string of prime-time roles, he returned to daytime in 1993 to play James on B&B; in 1997, he became the show's first-ever Daytime Emmy-winner. The show tried to lure him back in 2002, but PORT CHARLES beat them to the punch with the role of vampire/band manager Joshua Temple. His admiration for former PC Executive Producer Julie Hanan Carruthers made the prospect of working with her again on AMC (she is the show's current executive producer) an attractive one, as did his love for New York City. When he's not biking around Manhattan, Buchanan enjoys indulging his lust for travel; he has crisscrossed the world several times over with close friend Susan Flannery (Stephanie, B&B). In between daytime stints, Buchanan has also managed to pack in a plethora of film roles. His movie co-stars have included Jodie Foster, Teri Hatcher, GH's Kari Wuhrer (Reese) and Demi Moore.

—Landed his plum part on TWIN PEAKS after meeting the series's acclaimed director, David Lynch, while filming a commercial for Calvin Klein's Obsession cologne. His co-star in the ad, Lara Flynn Boyle, was cast as TWIN PEAKS's Donna.
