THE 411
Although he graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in business, John Brotherton was driven to make a career of acting. So he packed up his car and headed straight to L.A., where he lived and worked for four years while booking the occasional acting gig. He was waiting tables at Herb Alpert's Vibrato in Los Angeles when he got the opportunity to test for the brand-new role of Jared on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. "My agent told me to think Sawyer from LOST. So I had to grow my scruff out because usually I didn't have scruff, and now I have scruff 24/7," he laughs. "And they wanted sexy and charming, but also edgy." The actor passed with flying colors and had just five days to move across the country. Brotherton soon purchased an engagement ring and flew back to propose to longtime girlfriend Alison; the couple wed in June 2008.
Prior to booking OLTL, his only experience in daytime was as an extra on PASSIONS. Brotherton also co-produced and starred in the independent short film Smith and Mike on a Tuesday, which was shot on a budget of only $2,600 and has been making the festival rounds. The video can be viewed at www.myspace.com/smithandmikeonatuesday.
