The 411
One of four children born to an army officer and his artist wife, Maureen Garrett spent most of her childhood in Europe. Before landing GL in 1976, Garrett held jobs ranging from editor of an American newspaper in Germany to a freelance photographer to a Head Start teacher in Philadelphia. Also prior to her soap days, the actress had an extensive list of theater credits, including roles in The Glass Menagerie and Hedda Gabler and one commercial (for Pampers). Garrett left GL in 1981, but returned for a few Christmas episodes in 1988. Then-Head Writer Pam Long was so impressed with her that she persuaded the actress to return full-time. Garrett since changed to recurring status and her character has not been seen since 2006. Garrett is the founder of the GUIDING LIGHT Actors' Workshop, for which she is produced the play Vendler's Television Playhouse, written by former GL scribe Susan Rice. Garrett received Emmy nominations in 1991, '92 and '94.

Memorable Quotes
"I always have to sit on Holly. She always has to be vulnerable. I would like to see her get more assertive. Her world was very small. But then something happened to burst her world wide open. Her consciousness has been cracked wide open since the rape. She has to be more aware." —Soap Opera Digest, 12/18/79
"I remember [Michael Zaslow, ex-Roger] wheeling out onto the middle of the dance floor and looking across at me, and we just looked at each other for a long time. I was thinking how we had looked into each other's eyes so many times, for so many years. His eyes were so familiar to me. And that was our way of saying good-bye." —Digest, 11/21/00
"My dreams, too, are mixed with people in both my life and working life, as if they are family." —Digest, 6/25/02
