Catching Up With Schae Harrison

Weekly caught up with Schae Harrison to talk about her recent return to THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL and what life is like post-Darla.

Soap Opera Weekly: Was it fun coming back for a short visit?
Schae Harrison: That’s my home and my family! I grew up there. This was the first time I’d been back in a while. It was amazing. It was like I’d never missed a day. It was a little emotional; I had to hug and kiss everyone a thousand times. It was like stepping back into a pair of comfortable slippers. I was on a high, floating around the studio. I’m grateful for the 18 years I had there and I’m blessed to be a part of that family. Luckily, this time I didn’t have to be all bloody Schae Harrison; they made me pretty. I’ve enjoyed what Brad Bell has done with the story. I miss being there, but God, what has spun out of it is some wonderful work, especially for Winsor (Harmon, Thorne) and Susan Flannery, Stephanie). I’m so proud of Winsor, and he has some heavy stuff coming. He’s blossomed this year. He’s my older brother. You can print that (laughs).
Weekly: What other projects are you involved with?
Harrison: I’m juggling a lot of things. I’m not turning down any offers, but my energies are concentrated on music right now. I’d forgotten how much I loved it! God gives us these gifts and it’s a shame not to use them. I’m happy doing what I’m doing. I started singing when I started talking, and that was my first love. I started giving performances of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on my front lawn when I was 5. I used to charge these kids to come see me! The acting took off before the singing, so it was a bit on the back burner, but not quite. Being on B&B gave me opportunities to tour the world and sing. I’ve toured everywhere and recorded. I’m working on an album and I’m hooking up with a company to do cabaret acts on weekend evenings. I’m doing a selection of sexy ballads accompanied by a piano. We’re going to start with L.A. and then conquer the world! The album is a sexy, jazzy fusion of so many different styles. The common thread is smooth, sexy vocals. It’s going to be some cool ambient vibes. I’m doing originals and a few covers. Another thing in the works is a reality show about the makings of a country music star. I love all genres — country, jazz, pop, classical — as long as the music’s good. It’s in the early stages, but I would not be hosting. I would be possibly working on being the next big thing in country music. Who knows?

Weekly: Most people know you as an actress and a singer, but not a dancer.
Harrison: They do in Europe. I’m kicking around the idea of doing DANCING WITH THE STARS in Italy. My No. 1 priority is my Haven Jude. I’m so excited to be able to sing around my baby. He’s been listening to me sing since he was born and he digs it. It’s great to take him to studio work and travel and have my family with me. Lately I take my son to Shakey’s Pizza here in Southern California. They have games for kids, but on Friday and Saturday nights they have karaoke. My baby and I get up and he grabs the mic and sings with me. I’m practicing my act while he’s singing about baseball or whatever’s on his mind. He’s 3 1/2 and he’s a performer. I don’t know where he gets it. Mick (Cain, C.J.) and I are both so shy, aren’t we? Life is good.
