What Happened to Nurse Amy on General Hospital

Nurse Amy Driscoll has been a recurring fixture at General Hospital ever since the character was first introduced back in May 2016. However, some longtime fans of the soap can be forgiven for being slightly confused, as GH also had a Nurse Amy back in the ‘80s. But that was Amy Vining, played by the late Shell Kepler. This new Nurse Amy is played by actress Risa Dorken, although she shares with her namesake her spunky attitude and love of hospital gossip!

Amy was introduced working at the hospital and gossiping with Maxie Jones. It was later revealed that Amy and Maxie were in high school together but Maxie was a witch and cut Amy from the cheerleading team. She knew Dillon Quartermaine from school as well. As a nurse at GH, Amy also performed at the annual Nurses Ball, both in the group number with the other nursing staff and occasionally in other routines.

To supplement her nursing income, Amy wrote an advice column called Ask Man Landers, pretending to be a guy. But when she got a book deal, Amy panicked and begged Nathan West to be the face of Man Landers. Reluctantly, Nathan agreed, and his spending so much time with Amy caused friction in his new marriage to Maxie. Later, Amy’s brother, Chet Driscoll, showed up in Port Charles, and was hospitalized with an overdose. Amy confessed that she concocted the entire Man Landers scheme to help pay for her sibling’s rehab and get Chet off drugs.

Amy is usually seen at the hospital working with patients, like when she helped Franco Baldwin recover after being stabbed by Ryan Chamberlain. She can also be counted on to give her all with her performances at the hospital’s annual Nurses Ball.

In October 2020, Amy ran into old friend Brook Lynn Ashton, who persuaded her to be her voice on the new single to promote Deception since she couldn’t sing herself after having her throat cut by Nelle. Amy reluctantly agreed and even stepped in to provide the vocals as Brook Lynn lip-synched at a presentation, but that went sideways when their deception was exposed! She has continued to appear working at the hospital, managing to keep her job during all of the cuts made when Cyrus Renault temporarily took over the place.

In December 2021, Nina Reeves distracted Amy so that Sasha Gilmore and Brando Corbin could see their newborn son in the NICU. And around Valentine’s Day 2022, she wanted to make sure things were okay between Dr. Hamilton Finn and Elizabeth Webber while also worrying to Chet that he hadn’t been seeing anyone at all recently. She also told Dr. Terry Randolph she didn’t think that Brad Cooper should be allowed to return to work at the hospital but Terry reminded her that wasn’t her decision and told her to get back to work. Amy later felt like Terry was picking on her and threatened to complain to Monica Quartermaine. When she found out that Chet and Terry were dating, she applied for a job in Chicago on her brother’s behalf to try and split them up. But after he got it, she felt guilty and confessed, though Terry urged Chet to take the job anyway.

in April 2023, Amy once again joined the other nurses singing on stage during the annual Nurses Ball. And during various times of the year, was chastised for gossiping about the staff and revealing patient information. As one of the nurses who had assisted in the treatment of Finn’s patient, she was involved when he was sued for malpractice by the man’s family.
